I have been back to Kenya and fulfilled the first part of my promise. The photographs are of a funday for every child in the village.

We had a barbecue with goat meat as well as a casserole, rice salad and chapattis.

All the food was paid for by my friends and several hotel guests and the chef Alex at the luxury Southern Palms Hotel generously donated 150 jam donuts.

The balls, frisbees and toys were donated by hotel guests as were several school uniforms and shoes, pens books etc

The much maligned “layabout” youths of the village all turned up to help prepare the old church hut as well as bringing furniture from their own homes for the children to sit on. Not one asked for anything in return. The ladies of the village spent hours sorting 40kg of rice by hand, peeling, cooking and cleaning for 2 days to get it all ready.

We all had a great time singing dancing laughing and seeing children for once with a fully nutritious meal, now we have to make sure other children get the same chance.

Obviously I have been criticised for doing this and not looking at the long term picture but I believe every child has the right to a good memory because memories affect how we are in the future. Surely having good memories of a time spent with other tribes and religious beliefs cannot be insignificant or a waste.
