February 2009

I have been made aware of a special need by my friend Victor Kamau, Principal Officer for complaints & Investigation (Kenya National Commission for Human Rights)

It involves some very ill children who, during the election violence, were herded into a building which was subsequently set ablaze. Some survived but suffered severe burns requiring reconstructive surgery which at the present time is not likely to become available without funds.

Kenya has a health system but neither can it cope with all the needs of the people nor is it 100% free. I do not know how much we will be able to help but even if it is just being able to supply some pain relief it will be a start. It depends entirely on the generosity of everyone visiting this website. I hope to be in Kenya in the next month and will bring back a full update and with the photographs get advice from UK surgeons of the treatment options.

As well as this we have a child in the group previously assisted who no longer receives sponsorship for school fees, so has had to pull out of this years classes. This is a great shame as she shows great promise (7 year old). I personally cannot fund any more and the previous sponsor has severe problems owing to the current Credit Crunch. It works out at £350 per annum - that includes food, school uniform, shoes and transport. If anyone wants to sponsor or help sponsor this child please get in touch.

Finally, if you have any spare Air Miles please do not just leave them lying in a drawer or waste them send them to me as every penny I can save on flights - all of which comes from my own funds not from donations - I can use in Kenya.

Thank you - Trev
